What is an eSIM?

An embedded SIM (eSIM) lets you connect to a wireless network. It’s just like a physical SIM card, but a digital eSIM is built into your phone. With an eSIM, you don’t have to insert that small chip into your phone. And it’s more secure – someone can’t remove the physical SIM card if your phone is lost or stolen. In just a few simple steps, you are ready to make calls, send messages, and browse the web.

Some phones are dual compatible – they use both a physical SIM card and an eSIM, so you can have two wireless accounts with talk, text, and data all on one device. Some devices can even have multiple eSIMs on the same device and use two phone numbers at the same time.

Download an eSIM to a new Clarity device

  • Transferring your number from another provider? Be sure to activate your phone first. Then turn it on and follow the prompts to download your eSIM.
  • Have an existing Clarity number? Just turn on your new phone and follow the prompts to download your eSIM.
     

Move my Clarity number to another phone 

Ready to move your number to an unlocked phone you purchased somewhere other than Clarity? Here’s how:

  1. 1. Start at Bring Your Own Device.
  2. 2. Select Switch the device used on my line.
  3. 3. Follow the prompts to download and activate your eSIM.

iPhone

While setting up your iPhone over Wi-Fi®, your eSIM might download automatically or you might be prompted to install an Clarity cellular plan. If you have wireless service bars or you can make a call, you’re all set.

Still don’t have service? Try this:

1.  Connect to Wi-fi.
2.  Swipe down from the top of your screen to open your notifications.
3.  Choose the Clarity Cellular Plan Ready to be Installed notification
4.  Select Continue.

Don’t see a notification? You might have to activate your iPhone first.

Samsung smartphone

You’ll need a Wi-Fi connection on your phone and an eSIM activation card with a QR code from Clarity. To download your eSIM, open your camera app, point the camera at the QR code, and follow the prompts.

If you can’t scan the QR code with your camera, follow these steps:

1.  Open Settings. 
2.  Select Connections. 
3.  Select SIM card manager. 
4.  Select Add mobile plan. 
5.  Follow the prompts to scan the QR code on your eSIM activation card from Clarity.

If your Samsung smartphone still doesn’t have wireless service, activate your device.

Google smartphone

Make sure you have an eSIM activation card with a QR code from Clarity.

Follow these steps on your phone:

1.  Connect to Wi-Fi®. 
2.  Open Settings. 
3.  Choose Network & Internet.
4.  Select the plus sign (+) next to Mobile network.
5.  Select Download a SIM instead.
6.  Follow the prompts to scan the QR code on your eSIM activation card from Clarity.

If your phone still doesn’t have wireless service, activate your device.

Other Android phone

Make sure you have an eSIM activation card with a QR code from Clarity. Then, follow these steps on your phone:

1.  Connect to Wi-Fi®. 
2.  Open Settings and look for Network, Connections, Mobile, or similar.
3.  Find the option to download a SIM or eSIM.
4.  Follow the prompts to scan the QR code on your eSIM activation card from Clarity.
